Japanese Cotton Tenugui: Cherry Blossom Brocade
This is a precut long piece of 100% cotton, made in Japan, called a tenugui. Tenugui translates to "hand towel" but is much more than that. It's a piece of cotton fabric, approximately 14" x 36", that can indeed be hemmed and used as a hand towel or tea towel, but also can be quilted, sewn into clothing or other textile goods, or displayed as art. This design is called Sakura Nishiki or "Cherry Blossom Brocade." It's not a brocade fabric, it's a plain-woven cotton; that's just the given name.
I purchased these tenugui in Japan and hope you love them as much as I do! This one features gorgeous cherry blossoms and would look beautiful hung as a piece of art on its own, or combined with other fabrics. The dye permeates the fabric so it looks great on both sides.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not yardage, it's sold as a single piece. This one is about 13" x 35"
For scale, the vertical photo shows the whole design.
NOTE #2: If you are going to use this with other fabrics, please wash it first! Wash by hand in cold water, do not leave to soak. Hang dry only. Irons well.
NOTE #3: The full vertical image showing the whole piece is two images spliced together, please ignore the awkward transition near the centre.
